Keynote Speaker - Heath Harris

Heath Harris is the First Assistant at the DistrictAttorney’s (DA) Office, where he has worked since returning to the office in 2007. Prior to being appointed First Assistant, he served as Administrative Chief of Division A (Felony), Administrative Chief of the Intake/Grand Jury Division and Chief of the Gang Unit. Additionally, in 2008 he was the recipient of the DA’s Above & Beyond Award.

The Lubbock, Texas, native has 16 years of experience practicing criminal law and worked in private practice from 2000 to 2006. During his previous four-year stint as a Dallas County prosecutor, he prosecuted numerous cases in the misdemeanor and felony trial divisions under two prior administrations between 1996 and 2000. Mr. Harris was assigned to the Public Integrity Unit and Organized Crime Division before he left the office and went into private practice.

He is a graduate of the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas, where he earned a Juris Doctor degree, and Lubbock-based Texas Tech University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing. A firm believer in giving back to the community, he speaks regularly to local youth groups and serves as a YMCA youth basketball and baseball coach.

His past and current professional and civic memberships include the State Bar of Texas, U.S. District Court Northern and Eastern Districts, North Texas Crime Commission, Dallas Bar Association Criminal Justice Forum, Criminal Justice Advisory Board Law Enforcement Committee, Dallas County Jail Population Committee, Democratic Forum, N.A.A.C.P., 23rd Senatorial District Organization, Texas District and County Attorneys Association, Department of Justice Project Safe Neighborhoods Anti-Gang Initiative Task Force, Board Member Dallas County Criminal Defense Lawyer Association, Texas Criminal Defense Trial Lawyer, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

Special Speaker - Terrance Dean Jr.

Terrance Dean Jr. is the son of Lakisha Budgewater and has one brother, Savant Taylor. He is the grandson of Kenneth and Carmalie Sims. He gives credit for his success for his loving family and the many friends who have helped to mold his life.
He is a proud member of the St. Paul Baptist Church where his pastor is the Rev. Lelious A. Johnson. At St. Paul he serves as youth director for the children’s choir. He began his public speaking at his church, and was chosen in 2008 as a youth forum speaker for the Baptist Congress, where he spoke about Back to the Basics-Family, Home and Church. He is presently a 6th grade student at W.E. Greiner Exploratory Arts Academy where he serves as Vice-President of the Student Council. He is also an active member in the Mixed Choir, Boys Choir and also a Theatre Student.

In his short span he has performed mime interpretations for the City of Dallas where he placed first in the Summer Performing Arts Competitions representing Exline Recreation Center.
He also has performed and spoken at his great-grandmother’s church Community United Methodist and performed several mime interpretations. Recently, he was a speaker for the Travon Martin Rally at Dealey Plaza and from this event the Dallas Examiner mentioned him in their article.

As a youth performer for the Black Academy under the direction of Mr. Curtis King, his mentor, several opportunities have come his way. He introduced actor Clifton Davis at the GOSPEL ROOTS CONCERT and was also interviewed and shadowed by the Dallas Morning News. He performed for the Civil Rights Concerts in 2012 and 2013 and also appeared as a host for the Young Promising Artists Series at the Academy. He also introduced Actress Ruby Dee on Mother’s Day in 2012 at the Apollo Theatre, in Harlem New York.

He always points to God as the source of his strength. He will point you in the right way you need to go if you go down the wrong path.

TWO BROTHERSWHO MAKE POSITIVE
AND INSPIRATIONAL RAP MUSIC

Royal Kinection are King and Sovereign, ages 12 and 8. Two brothers who got their start in Gospel/Inspirational Rap at a school talent show.

For their love of the Lord, they decided to pursue their newly found journey. Their mission is to walk in the example that Christ has set before them, and to spread the gospel, and inspire other children and adults alike.
