and Plans

  • Contributes to public health policy
  • Participates in strategic health planning

Diagnose and Investigate Health Problems

  • Plans, investigates, and responds to public health emergencies
  • Gathers, analyzes, and investigates data regarding actual or potential threats to human health (communicable diseases, chronic diseases, injuries, etc.)
  • Recommends individual and community level control measures

Inform and Educate

  • Develops, coordinates, and implements health education and health promotion activities
  • Supports health and at-risk communication activities

NURSEMobilize Communities to Address Health Problems

  • Establishes partnerships with community members to address community health needs
  • Evaluate Health Services
  • Evaluates the effectiveness, accessibility, and quality of health services and progresses towards program goals


Link People to Needed Health Services

  • Provides targeted health services (e.g. for TB, STD, HIV, and other public health conditions)
  • Serves as a consultant regarding available resources in the community
